Grant-Funded Access

One Session. Two Healed.

Every session purchased at Helen's Project funds one for a person or family in need. Apply directly and your rate is worked out the moment you submit — from your household size and income, against the federal poverty guidelines. There's no approval queue to wait in.

How it works

4 Steps to Get Started

One short form and one document. Have your proof of income to hand — a recent pay stub, benefits letter, bank statement or tax form — and you'll know your rate before you close the tab.

Apply directly on the website

About five minutes. You'll be asked for your household size, your annual household income, and proof of income.

You see your rate straight away

The federal poverty guidelines set it from your household size and income — no one has to approve it first. It appears on the last step of the form.

Reception calls to schedule your first session

Our team reaches out to book your first appointment with one of our providers.

Begin your sessions

You're matched with a provider and care begins at your rate. If your clinician's own rate is lower, you pay the lower one.

Insurance & Billing FAQ

Common Questions About Affordable Therapy

Short answers to the questions we hear most often about insurance, telehealth pricing, and the Community Access Program.

Is in-person therapy available?
Yes — in-person therapy is available in San Antonio, TX starting August 2026. All other services, including psychiatric care and medication management, remain available via secure telehealth nationwide. Join our waitlist to be among the first in-person clients in San Antonio.
What is the Community Access Program?
The Community Access Program is the umbrella for all of Helen's Project's payment pathways. It includes three options: Insurance (commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and EAP), One Session. Two Healed. (grant-funded access for qualifying clients), and Sliding Scale (per-session rates adjusted to your clinician level and situation, including The Reserve membership). There is a path in for everyone.
Does Helen's Project accept insurance?
Yes. We accept all major private and public insurance plans — including Aetna, Cigna, BlueCross BlueShield, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Optum, Medicare, Medicaid, Ambetter, and Baylor Scott & White. See the full list above. Once you schedule, we confirm your benefits before your first session.
How much does therapy cost?
With insurance, most members pay only their plan copay. Cash-pay membership starts at $99/month for 4 sessions ($24.75/session — 84% below the national telehealth average). For those who qualify, care is available through One Session. Two Healed. — funded by every session purchased.
How do I know what I’ll actually pay for therapy?
We verify your insurance benefits before your first session so you’ll have a clear idea of your co-pay, deductible, or any out-of-pocket costs. If anything changes, we’ll let you know right away.
Can I switch between insurance and self-pay?
Yes. You can switch payment methods at any time. We just recommend notifying billing in advance so we can avoid claim conflicts or billing delays.
Will my insurance plan cover telehealth therapy?
In most cases, yes. Since the pandemic, nearly all major insurers cover telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person care. We verify your benefits before your first session so you know exactly what's covered — no surprise bills.
What if my insurance isn't on the list?
Reach out anyway. We add new payers regularly, and we can often work with out-of-network plans by providing a superbill for partial reimbursement. Contact us and we'll let you know what we can do.
How does One Session. Two Healed. work?
One Session. Two Healed. is our pay-it-forward program — every session purchased at Helen’s Project funds one for a person or family in need. Apply directly on the website. Our reception team will reach out to schedule your appointment.
Do you offer superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
Yes. If you're paying out-of-pocket, we provide superbills (itemized receipts) you can submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement under your out-of-network mental-health benefits.
What happens if I get a bill after my session?
This usually happens while insurance claims are still processing or if a deductible hasn’t been met yet. We recommend waiting for your Explanation of Benefits (EOB), and our billing team can help review anything that looks unclear.
Why might a claim be denied?
Common reasons include eligibility issues, out-of-network status, missing referrals, or plan limitations. If a denial occurs, we review it and help identify next steps, including resubmission or available patient options.
What's the cancellation or no-show policy?
Sessions cancelled less than 1 hour in advance, or no-shows, may be billed a standard cancellation fee. Members in the One Session. Two Healed. program receive an automatic grace policy — life happens, we work with you.
